How it all began –
Falkenberg has a long tradition of shoe manufacturing. My father Arne Nilsson started working in a shoe factory in 1958. Then only 14 years old and had just finished his studies. During the 60s and 70s, shoe manufacturing flourished and the city’s factories employed around 600 people. Today there is only one shoe factory left in Falkenberg: Marcus Sweden. We still manufacture similar shoes today that Arne Nilsson has been doing for the past 60 years. Similarly, with the same tools, machines and materials. All shoes you find here on the website are made directly to order in the shoe factory in Falkenberg, where Arne, today 74 years old, still comes to visit and manufactures some shoes of the highest quality.
The photo of my father to the right is probably taken late 50s or early 60s.
AB Hjalmar Svenssons shoe factory on fire
1964 there was a big fire and AB Hjalmars Svensson shoe factory burned to the ground. My father remember it was 1964 becuase the same day as the fire the bought his own first car! (a Volkswagen)
In the 80s and 90s most shoe factories closed down in Falkenberg.
A one year break, then back to school…
1992 I finished high school. I was supposed to have a one year break from school and then get back to studying again. That never happened… 27 years later I still go the factrory every day and I absolutely love it!
